On March 2, 2024 it's that time again: Museumnacht (Museum Night) Rotterdam. Explore Rotterdam's museums during the late hours for a unique experience. From 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM you have access to more than 35 cultural hotspots in Rotterdam.
The Museumnacht010 programme is full of exhibitions, performances, workshops, taste explosions and more. It is impossible to visit all events during Museum Night in Rotterdam. There are too many options! We will help you and share some highlights below.
Various exhibitions and performances can be admired in WORM, where all the doors, nooks and crannies open up. In their not-so-white-cube-gallery you experience UMARELL ULTRAS, a group exhibition around Paul Mogwitz as an ongoing conversation, with Donatas Tretjakovas, Frederique Jonker and Heikki Saikkonen, among others.
During NEXT you enter a black box, where seven young international talents perform a new choreography under the wings of dance company Conny Janssen danst. NEXT is a reflection on the city of Rotterdam and is specially developed to play outside the established theaters. The performances start at 8:30 PM and 11:00 PM.
At 8:00 PM you are welcome for the performance of Ratri Notosurdidjo and fellow performance artists, including Shasti, Gabi Dao, XI3LLA, Loulou Sainsbury. Together they present a varied programme in which they further develop their multidisciplinary practice.
Diagonally opposite WORM you will find the Melly Art Institute. The LIVE event will take place here, a collaboration between Melly and the Amarte fund. During this evening, art and music merge, with performances taking place simultaneously amid works of art on different floors. Various musicians create music, surrounded by contemporary art, that matches the artworks and themes of the exhibitions in both concept and style.
During your visit you can immediately admire Bewaard by Sijben Rosa, where the artist Sijben talked to people who are closer to death as a result of old age or illness. Or discover the group exhibition My Oma, in which 40 artists investigate how grandmothers influence personal and cultural histories. My Oma aims to encourage learning about history, promote stronger connections between different generations and celebrate knowledge in communities spread across places.
You can also visit the Kunsthal during Museumnacht010. Artist Machteld Rullens created a site-specific work especially for Kunsthal Light in the twenty-five meter long 'shop window' along the Kunsthal ramp, called Scrap Yard Abstraction. For this work, Rullens transformed cardboard packaging material from the Kunsthal into colourful wall objects.
This unique location cannot be missed! Het Oogziekenhuis (the Eye Hospital) is also participating in Museumnacht010 this year. The hospital is known as the 'People's Museum for Eye Art' due to its special interior and unique art collection.
Take a photo of your iris and immediately admire the Exhibition of the Eye, with countless photos taken every day by employees. Listen to Trio 'RAAK', a fun trio consisting of a double bass, guitar and accordion, which tours the hospital and entertains visitors with atmospheric music.
Of course you want to be there! Ticket sales start on Monday February 5. For Museumnacht010 you buy one ticket, which you can use to visit all participating locations. Click here to get a ticket!
