North Sea Jazz Rotterdam is this year's winner of the Rotterdam Promotieprijs (Promotion Award). On Tuesday, February 27, Mayor Aboutaleb will present the award during a festive meeting in the Burgerzaal.
North Sea Jazz Rotterdam is the largest indoor jazz festival in the world. Year after year, the festival welcomes legends and new talent from the jazz, soul, funk and hip-hop scene, who enchant us with their music. At the Codarts Talent Stage you will discover emerging and experimental talent.
The jury of the Promotieprijs praises North Sea Jazz for its diverse programming in addition to new (cross-over) music movements, as well as the good organization of the festival.
The Rotterdam Promotieprijs was founded in 1966 by the members of Club 25. The founders saw that the development of the port of Rotterdam received plenty of attention, but that developments in the city itself, at an economic, social and cultural level, received less attention. Since 1971, the prize has been awarded to a person or organization that, according to the members of Club 25, has contributed exceptionally to promoting the fame and good name of Rotterdam as a city and port.
Previous winners include Stichting Ambulance Wens, Boekhandel Donner, Van Oord, Roparun, Ivo Opstelten and Lee Towers.
