If you're from Rotterdam, chances are you've been to a performance, because the puppet show on Binnenwegplein has been around for 40 years. For-ty!
To celebrate this, young and old are welcome at a puppet show party on Binnenwegplein, tomorrow on the 20th of August. The play will take place from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and there will be a special guest from the capital city: Egon Adel. The puppeteer from Dam Square will accompany the Rotterdammers.
The puppet theater has had a permanent place on the Binnenwegplein since the early 1980s. Many Rotterdammers have a lot of sentiment about the puppet show in the striking building, painted with children's portraits, in the middle of the square.
Since then, Koos Wieman, John de Winter and Wim Noordegraaf have been playing here every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon between May and September. And did you know that they are looking for a fourth man or woman? So if you feel like they are looking for you, sigh up!
The puppet show turned 40 in 2020, so actually it has been around for 42 years now. "Because of Corona, we couldn't celebrate the birthday. But now we can!'' So, on Saturday August 20th, it's time for a real ''Binnenwegfeest'', according to the puppeteers on their website.
For the special occasion, the team of Poppenkast Binnenwegplein will be accompanied by a guest from the capital on Saturday: Egon Adel. The puppeteer from Dam Square will show his skills for all who wants to join.
The show will be played non-stop for three hours. So get yourself a nice sandwich at the TostiHouse and enjoy the show!
On to another 40 years of puppet shows on the Binnenwegplein!
