Great news! There is a new exhibition in one of the three displays on the Lijnbaan. The title of the exhibition is 'Rotterdam Beweegt', meaning 'Rotterdam Moves' and was created by illustrator and animator Conform Cox (Cox Janssens). Read more about this expo below!
The display case contains four large drawings from the 'Lijnen langs de lijn' (meaning 'Lines along the line') series. Cox drew this in 2019, when she was working as the city draftsman of Rotterdam. For this she visited various sports clubs and competitions. In this series you see a lot of group sports.
The world changed due to the pandemic and that's how Cox came up with the idea to portray individual athletes in the city by means of animations. In times of lockdown, the outdoor space was given a different, more intensive, function than before. Indoor sports were moved outside where possible, competitions and team sports were no longer allowed for a while. The public space in the city actually became one large playground.
That is why through the peepholes, on the other side of the display case, you can see animations in which not only the athletes, but also the buildings in the city move, a reference to the new possibilities that residents have discovered. Cox says about this: "The animations about individual sports contain some jokes. For example, the buildings in the animations also move. That is a kind of wink to how Rotterdam moves along with the needs of the inhabitants."
