Are you looking for a nice museum about art in Rotterdam? With such a cultural and historical background as that of Rotterdam, every art lover can indulge himself or herself here.
Spend a cultural day in Rotterdam and visit these art museums in Rotterdam for a day full of inspiration and fun!
Of course, the first on the list cannot be anything other than the Kunsthal. The Kunsthal was founded in 1992 and has since occupied a unique position within the Dutch cultural landscape.
With no fewer than 25 exhibitions per year, it is always surprising here. Contemporary art, photography, fashion and design are all discussed. But where the Kunsthal perhaps excels most are the fantastic collaborations they organize. Together with the biggest names in the world, the Kunsthal brings the most special exhibitions to our city.
In the famous Museum Park you will find one of Rotterdam's eye-catchers: the Boijmans van Beuningen Depot. A place that was also a world first, because the Boijmans van Beuningen is the first museum to make its entire collection accessible to the public.
And as artistic as they are, it naturally had to be an architecturally impressive building. That worked. This forty-meter-high mirror building, designed by architect Winy Maas, is a true asset to Museum Park and an attraction that you should not miss.
What can you expect from your visit to the Depot? No exhibitions as you might know from museums, but 151,000 art objects that you can browse through. You can do this independently, or you can book a nice tour. You will also get a look behind the scenes when it comes to conservation and restoration.
To complete this attraction, you will find a terrace in the shape of a forest on the roof of the Depot. With no fewer than 75 trees, you are literally in nature here, but at a height of 35 meters, on the roof of an egg covered with mirrors. We can't make it any cooler.
A museum that should not be missed during your artistic tour of Rotterdam is of course the Chabot museum.
This museum is located in a beautiful villa from 1938, designed by C.H. Kraaijeveld. Within the museum you will find the work of Dutch painter and sculptor Henk Chabot (1894-1949). Henk Chabot was a leading Dutch expressionist artist who lived and worked in Rotterdam. You can recognize his work by the exuberant landscapes he painted. But the war also featured in his work, such as paintings with refugees, people in hiding and prisoners.
In this beautiful museum in the Scheepvaartkwartier, on the corner of Willemskade and Veerhaven, you will become acquainted with an impressive Rotterdam collection. In total, this collection consists of more than 83,000 objects with objects collected by Rotterdam residents since the 19th century.
With the changing exhibitions there is always a new reason to visit the Wereldmuseum! Check the Wereldmuseum website for current exhibitions.
