Are you a fan of (women's) cycling and do you like watching the Tour de France on television? Then this is your chance! The third Tour de France Femmes will kick off in Rotterdam in 2024.
A true spectacle from August 12 to 18, with very nice things happening in Rotterdam between August 11 and 13.
The festival starts on Sunday, August 11 with the Rotterdam Cycling Festival. Whether you are a novice cyclist or a seasoned mountain biker, on this day you will have the opportunity to cycle through a city centre closed to traffic!
The official route is open to you to experience for yourself, where you cycle over iconic locations such as the Erasmus Bridge and the Coolsingel. You can choose from the tours below.
You can cycle in all directions with distances of 70, 110 and 150 km. The shortest route of 70 km is mainly around Rotterdam. Are you taking the 110 or 150 kilometer tour? Then you will pass Dordrecht, the Oude Maas and even The Hague! Of course you finish next to the Erasmus Bridge.
This tour is especially for the ladies, in which you will be guided by none other than world and Olympic champion Leontien van Moorsel. How cool is that? This tour is not aimed at performance, but mainly intended for cycling together.
Would you like to register for one of the tours? That can be done via this website.
Would you rather not register for a tour, but still enjoy the route? This is possible during the Open Course. From 12 noon to 2 o'clock the course is accessible to all ages and to everyone on wheels (without a motorbike, of course). A fun way to race around the course with your family, just like the pros.
Finally, there is the Rotterdam Peloton from 11 AM to 12 PM. You cannot register for this, but it is fun to watch! In recent months, 154 women have learned to cycle and this is the time to show what they can do.
Then on Monday August 12 it is really time to see the pros at work. The first stage takes place on this day, in which the participants ride from Rotterdam to The Hague.
The start of the first stage will take place in the centre, the Museumpark to be precise! The starting gun sounds at 12:10, after which the sprinters ride their first lap through the centre from the Boijmans van Beuningen Depot. They continue over the Coolsingel and Witte de Withstraat; the perfect place to cheer on the riders!
The complete Tour de France Femmes consists of eight stages. On Tuesday, August 13, there are two stages in one day: Dordrecht-Rotterdam followed by an individual time trial in Rotterdam. This means that they not only start in Rotterdam, but also race throughout the city during the time trial! The ideal time to experience this unique event with your own eyes.
After braving the flat landscape around Dordrecht, The Hague and Rotterdam, the race continues in Belgium. Valkenburg, Liège and Bastogne follow, after which the final stages cycle through the hills and mountains of France.
The Dutch are not averse to cycling. And that's great, because cycling is a healthy and sustainable means of transport! To promote this, the Tour de France Femmes is the perfect time to draw more attention to cycling. Did you know, for example, that there is quite a large group of Rotterdam residents who do not have the financial resources to buy a bicycle? That is why the Bicycle Bank was set up, among other things.
The Bicycle Bank (Fietsbank) calls on Rotterdam residents to donate bicycles that they no longer use. Rotterdam residents with a lower income can request a second-hand bicycle here. For example, do you have a children's or ladies' bicycle that deserves a second life? Then take a look at these return points to donate your bicycle.
