During the coming two weeks you can visit art at no less than two locations in the Koopgoot! On Friday, February 2, Art Central Rotterdam XL will open the exhibition 'Beurstraverse: an ounce of information is worth a pound of data'.
The exhibition is part of Rotterdam Art Week and takes place at two locations of De Goot, a new cultural stage on the Beurstraverse and part of the Koopgoot shopping area. The exhibition is a collaboration of more than 50 leading Rotterdam art galleries, institutes and artists. Read more below!
The exhibition is specifically tailored to the unique location of the exhibition spaces on the Beurstraverse, and the associated dynamics of this place. Marijn Bril, the curator of Art Central Rotterdam XL, emphasizes the importance of the Beurstraverse as a former financial centre of Rotterdam, which now functions as a commercial centre and forms a crucial node in a network
Marijn Bril: "The exhibition builds on this context and examines the different economic, transport and information systems that come together here. From the stock exchange with buyers and sellers, global trade driven by supply and demand, to the Internet with its users, servers and websites. These interconnected connected systems are characterized by complexity. Like cogs in a machine, the works in the exhibition explore feedback, control and errors in an age characterized by interconnectivity and rapid technological change. Do we control our systems, or do they control us?"
The exhibition takes place in De Goot, a new cultural hotspot that is part of De Koopgoot. The choice of this location is in line with the goal of Art Central Rotterdam XL to make art accessible to a wider audience. The Beurstraverse is a central place where different people and means of transport come together. This means that the exhibition can be seen by people who would otherwise not come into contact with it.
