It is inevitable that this year's AD Sports Film Festival Rotterdam has a specific theme, namely that of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Below you can read which sports films and documentaries you should not miss this summer!
On June 19, July 1 and August 5, Rotterdam, as a leading sports city, will highlight special sports films and documentaries. The location: that is of course the Rotterdam film theater Cinerama.
With the Grand Départ in prospect (11 - 13 August), the most beautiful cycling films and documentaries of international level will be shown. There will also be talk shows with special guests from global cycling and music. For example, Wilfried de Jong is the host and interviews special guests during the film evenings in Cinerama Filmtheater.
A documentary about the Dutch cycling team Argos-Shimano, which will ride the Tour de France in 2013. The aim is to demonstrate that you can also be successful without doping. They succeed, take the yellow jersey and win 4 stages.
During this display there will be special guests present, such as: Tom Dumoulin, Marcel Kittel, John Degenkolb, Tom Veelers and other prominent figures from the former Argos - Shimano cycling team.
The compelling life story of Johan Van der Velde can be read as a heroic epic, picaresque novel and thriller in one. He wins stages, jerseys, rounds. He dragged Joop Zoetemelk across the Alps in 1980, won the points jersey in the Giro and was a God in Italy. But then, at the height of his fame, he became alienated from his environment, took amphetamines, saw black snow and suddenly disappeared from the Giro in 1989. The cycling hero ended up in prison, but fought back.
In the film 'Complimenti Van der Velde', writer/filmmaker Bas Steman visits his idol at home in Breda. The film is a moving and disarming portrait of a cycling hero.
With special guest: Johan van der Velde
A film that takes place in Flanders and delves into the past, present and future of cycling. The classic Tour of Flanders plays an important role in the film, just like a number of cycling stars who have been awarded the honorary title Flandrien got.
Johan Museeuw will be present as a special guest during this screening.
