Of course every Rotterdam neighbourhood has its own charm and there are many beautiful homes in all shapes and sizes. In this article we highlight a number of special apartment complexes in the middle of the city centre and on the Kop van Zuid. Where can you see yourself living?
Have you always dreamed of a waterfront apartment? How about The Terraced Tower in the centre of Rotterdam. In this 110 meter high residential tower, with a prime location on the Boompjes, you have a beautiful view over the Maas and the city centre.
Everything is around the corner, so you can reach the Markthal and all kinds of nice restaurants and shops in no time. Take the water taxi right in front of your house and sail across the Maas. As a resident of these high-end apartments, you can also use the fitness space and there is even a restaurant in the building itself.
The Terraced Tower is a fairly new residential tower in Rotterdam; in the summer of 2021 it was added to the ever-changing skyline of Rotterdam. The building is designed by John Bosch of OZ Architects.
And then one that we certainly cannot overlook: the Zalmhaven that towers above everything. In total there are three new Zalmhaven towers. Together, the towers form a new construction plan in the centre of Rotterdam that consists of more than 450 high-quality apartments and townhouses. At 215 meters, the Zalmhaventoren I will even be the highest residential tower in the Benelux. Adjacent are Zalmhaven II and Zalmhaven III, medium-high towers of 70 meters.
With a location next to the Erasmus Bridge and on the Maas, you are right in the middle of all the action of the port city. Close to Het Park and with shops and restaurants within walking distance. In addition, the Zalmhaven will have a roof garden, a restaurant with a view of the Rotterdam skyline, various office spaces and a parking garage.
The Zalmhaven was designed by Dam & Partners and KAAN architects. Like The Terraced Tower, the Zalmtoren is a new addition to the Rotterdam skyline. The appartments of Zalmhaven II and Zalmhaven III have already been completed and Zalmhaven I is expected to be completed mid-2022.
With an apartment in the City House on the luxurious Kruiskade you live in the heart of Rotterdam with everything within reach. This monumental building was designed in 1955 by Van Tijen and Maaskant. The inside of the apartments has been completely renovated, so that as a resident you have everything you expect from a modern city apartment. Including a beautiful view of the city, of course!
The apartments can be rented out hull, unfurnished or fully furnished. It is of course super convenient for expats to be able to move in right away. A mix of young professionals from home and abroad lives in the City House.
Another central apartment complex is the Calypso. This residential tower is located on Schouwburgplein opposite De Doelen and the main entrance can be found on Mauritsweg. From Calypso you can easily reach the nicest restaurants, shops, art institutions and (movie) theaters within minutes.
As a resident of one of the apartments you can use the communal fitness room. In the building you will also find a service desk, meeting room and a parking garage.
The colourful building was designed by London architect William Alsop and executed by Van der Laan Bouma Architekten.
Nice tip: opposite the Calypso you will find the Calypso Falls. The residents of the Calypso found the concrete wall opposite their building a bit bare and boring. Now it's plastered with a life-size photo of the famous Icelandic waterfall Seljalandsfoss. Walk through our city and admire even more Rotterdam street art!
De Rotterdam is also known as a vertical city. This is because it is a place where people live, work and spend their free time. You can spend the night here in the special NHOW hotel or eat in one of the restaurants (HMB and Aqua Asia Club).
Rem Koolhaas, one of the designers of the Rotterdam skyline, presented the design for De Rotterdam in 1998-2001. Contractors and project developers did not dare to take it at the time. In the end, construction of De Rotterdam, with the help of the Municipality of Rotterdam, only started in 2009 and was completed in 2013.
The 149-meter high building has three towers, with the top shifted relative to the bottom of the building. The Rotterdam is now an indispensable part of the skyline of our city.
There are various apartments and penthouses for sale and for rent in 44/floors, the residential area of De Rotterdam. From these homes you have a beautiful view over the Maas.
Last but not least, we have New Orleans. Living on the Wilhelminapier is certainly not a punishment. A wonderful view of the Nieuwe Maas and within walking distance to the best hotspots on the Kop van Zuid.
The design is by the Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza and commissioned by Vesteda. At 158 meters, New Orleans is one of the tallest buildings in the Netherlands.
In this residential tower you can also use a private fitness room and there is even a swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath and a sun terrace with sunbeds. This way you can really unwind at home. What a dream!
Of course there are more beautiful residential towers on the Wilhelminapier, such as Montevideo. You can admire these, along with New Orleans, below.
