We have another one! A real AVPN pizzeria in Rotterdam: Pizza Beppe. With the closure of De Pizzabakkerij last year, you could no longer get the real authentic Neapolitan pizza anywhere in our city. Fortunately, that has been possible again since the end of December!
Fortunately, the city is rich in other good pizzerias. For example, check out these blogs about different pizzerias in Rotterdam Centre. To see if we can expand this list, Pizza Beppe had to be tried as well. Maybe the name already sounds familiar to you. You can also find the pizzeria in other cities. For the one in Rotterdam you have to go to Westwagenstraat.
The former building of the Dudok patisserie has undergone a complete makeover and the display cases with sweets have made way for a chic marble bar with a robust pizza oven. The tables are close together, but the high ceiling does not make it seem crowded. You always sit close to the oven, so the nice thing is that you can always see exactly how your pizza is freshly prepared before it is put in.
Start the evening at your leisure with a tasting of the various antipasti: some Parma ham, pecorino with truffle honey, burrata with tomato, and truffle salami. All classics, but good in their simplicity, exactly what Italian cuisine stands for. My favourite is the burrata, so wonderfully light and creamy, it melts on your tongue. The tomatoes are also a tasty addition.
Then the oven is fired up for our pizzas and the party begins. We try the legendary pizza Margherita and the ever popular option: il tartufo. A pizza oven like this is very hot, so as soon as you order a pizza, it goes in and out of the oven and it's done. The pizzas are nicely baked and the crust is nice and airy. I'm excited!
Also nice to know: Pizza Beppe also has a wide range of vegan pizzas. Another nice detail is the wine: in addition to a glass or bottle, you can also order it in a carafe, so it feels like you are in a picturesque Osteria. Not for Italian prices like in an Osteria, unfortunately, but that doesn't make the wine any less tasty!
We end the evening with the next great classic: the homemade tiramisù. This one is just as it should be: airy, creamy and with a good ratio between the cream and the ladyfingers. You really can't skip it.
To come back to the AVPN to which Pizza Beppe is certified with. At this organization, the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, you can assume that you will be served a traditional Neapolitan pizza. Pizzerias with this quality mark are committed to maintaining the Neapolitan style of pizza baking. This means that the pizza has a thin base and that characteristic puffed edge, just like in Naples. Now that you know that, you can enjoy your pizza even more!
