With Drippy's, Rotterdam has another burger restaurant! At the Stadhuisplein you will soon find popular smash burgers in various versions, a contemporary interior and perhaps a glimpse of owner Kaj Gorgels in the restaurant.
Did you say Kaj Gorgels? Yes, that's right. This TV presenter has joined forces with entrepreneur and CEO of De Beren Ad Schaap and culinary influencer Colin Knopper to open Drippy's.
"After months of preparation, tasting and fine-tuning, the time has finally come. It's fantastic to be able to actually open something that was once an idea," Kaj shares. "Opening my own restaurant is a boyhood dream of mine. To be able to do this together with seasoned entrepreneur Ad and culinary genius Colin is really the icing on the cake."
The smash burgers are becoming increasingly popular. But why is it called a smash burger? That's because the burger is flattened on the grill plate, which creates a brown crust thanks to the so-called maillard reaction. This ensures the recognizable umami taste of the smash burger.
In addition, Drippy's works with the best possible ingredients: the meat is 100% grass-fed beef, the bread is baked daily and the fries are also fresh. The team wants to prove itself in Rotterdam first and has big plans for the future. "We don't want to stop at one location. This is the start of something much bigger," says Gorgels. "Rotterdam is our first step, but we are definitely thinking further."
