You may have already seen it, but on May 5 the city comes together to dine and talk about freedom. This happens during a Freedom Meal. A wonderful initiative in which connection is created and an important topic is discussed.
But you may wonder, how do I participate in such a meal? Fortunately, that is very simple! A very accessible way is to simply join an organized meal. Below we share five nice places in Rotterdam for a Freedom Meal.
You shouldn't miss this Freedom Meal! Together with 250 other Rotterdammers, this is the largest there is this year. The afternoon will be a spectacle, because with live music, spoken word, a good lunch and beautiful stories you will experience the ultimate Freedom meal.
The Largest Freedom Meal XL takes place on Grotekerkplein, from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Joining is free! Register via this form.
With the Kunsthal as a prime location, a special edition of KunstKoppels will take place here on May 5. This is entirely dedicated to the Rotterdam Freedom Meals.
During KunstKoppels you will meet someone who is completely new and unknown to you. Someone from a different generation, background or lifestyle. Around the meal you will visit Sylvie Fleury's exhibition and discuss the art. Afterwards, a bowl of Freedom Soup will be ready for all participants in the Kunsthal Café and there will be room to chat afterwards.
The event starts at 11:30 AM. Would you like to register for this? Students and holders of a Rotterdam Pass or a Museum Annual Card can enter for free. Check out this link for tickets.
Besides enjoying the soup, would you like to do something good for the city? At OASE there is a waste collection walk along special places in the neighbourhood. In addition, a great show band will perform for the necessary entertainment!
The lunch and walk takes place from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM and costs €5 or a full waste bag. Register via this OASE link!
A creative approach to the Rotterdam Freedom Meals. Because in RUBATO in the Theater Rotterdam, after the meal, about twenty young newcomers delve into the role of music in the camps. They create a performance based on conversations and their own experiences. What meaning did music have amid all the horror?
The event takes place from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The meal is of course free! Do you want a ticket for the performance? You can buy these via de Theater Rotterdam website.
You can join for free for a delicious lunch between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at the Rotterdam Library! Talk to other Rotterdammers about what freedom means to you, while you are surrounded by a cool photo exhibition by Rosa Quist and Baraa Al Alem.
