Are you already familiar with The Cakery? In September, this artisanal pastry shop opened its doors on Karel Doormanstraat. Previously, the store of owners Nadia Salah and Onur Yusuf Sahin was located in Delfshaven, but fortunately for us, their delicious sweets can now be found in Rotterdam Centre.
Everything in this special pastry shop is homemade. That means no ready-made products; every dish is prepared entirely in-house, including the sauces and whipped cream. The Cakery's creations are created by Nadia herself: "Take for example our Ruby Raspberry Cheesecake, inspired by the Magnum Ruby. Or our Bounty Cheesecake with chocolate cake, coconut layer and cheesecake."
This also applies to their popular Baklava Cheesecake, a product that attracts many people to their store. Nadia came up with this cake after her first trip to Turkey, when she was inspired by all the baklava she had eaten there.
They also sell many more delicious cakes, different types of bars, brownies and blondies. And their specials are also worth mentioning: heated brownies or blondies served with ice cream.
In addition to a delicious cake, you also want a good drink. And at The Cakery they have a unique drink menu. For example, they sell the cappuccino crème brûlée here, a cappuccino with the taste of vanilla crème brûlée and a crispy top layer, just like a real crème brûlée. If you love pistachio, the pistachio latte is a must. Nice to try during these cold months!
You may remember the location when Vitaminstore was located there, but nothing about the store is the same. They have completely renovated the interior and it looks beautiful and stylish. There is a kind of large tree at the back of the store. A real eye-catcher!
The rest of the room exudes elegance, with beige walls, floors and subtle gold accents. The display case in which all those sweets are displayed is finished with mother-of-pearl tiles. According to Nadia: "Everything is very minimalist, because the cakes already have enough colour."
The Cakery is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 22:00. Whether you crave sweet treats during the day or would like to enjoy a delicious baklava cake for dessert later in the evening after a visit to a restaurant, it's all possible.
