As a worldly tastemaker, the Markthal has been bringing people together to enjoy various cuisines for ten years. This Rotterdam icon was officially opened on October 1, 2014, with none other than Queen Máxima performing the festive ceremony.
The Markthal is located in the heart of Rotterdam, close to other iconic buildings such as the Laurenskerk and the Cube Houses. The building, designed by Dutch architectural firm MVRDV, is a horseshoe-shaped structure covered with a massive glass facade. The entire building is more than 40 meters high and spans no less than 120 meters.
Besides the interesting exterior, the inside of the Markthal also offers some remarkable things. For example, the inside of the Markthal has an area of more than 12,000 square meters and is decorated with a huge mural that spans the entire ceiling. The artwork is called the "Horn of Plenty" and contains bright, colourful images of fruits and vegetables, among other things.
To celebrate that the Markthal has been the epicentre of taste for 10 years, you can enjoy ten days of free tastings at the restaurants, market stalls and other food spots in the Markthal during the Taste Days from 10 to 20 October.
In addition to free tastings at the participating hotspots, there are also great offers and promotions during the Taste Days. For example, do you spend more than €15 on culinary delicacies? Then you have a chance to win a nice foodie bag that you too will get a taste for! Get your Taste Card at one of the participating food spots, collect two taste points, and exchange them for your own food shopper.
