We have been waiting for the new restaurant at the top of the Zalmhaven Tower for a while. And now there is finally clarity: the new premium restaurant and cocktail bar is called CELEST!

It will be a unique experience. Inspired by the story The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall (1835) by world-famous American writer Edgar Allan Poe, this restaurant becomes much more than a culinary experience. It will be a place with special storytelling and spectacular design. And of course a beautiful view.

Poetry at great heights

In the story of Hans Pfaall, a Rotterdam resident, he travels to the moon in his homemade hot air balloon in 19 days. From his balloon, far away from earthly worries and duties, Pfaall sees the earth, oceans, moon, stars and planets; all elements that will return in CELEST.

It is therefore not without reason that the meaning of 'Celest' is heavenly. Something that evokes grandeur and mystery, but also appeals to the imagination. The hot air balloon, based on the story of Hans Pfaall, is the most important element in the logo.

Inside information

We'll have to wait a little longer for the design. Operator Magnicity wants to keep this, just like the menu, a secret for the time being. What they can share is that by the end of 2024, visitors will enjoy culinary high-quality dishes, excellent service and a stunning 360-degree view of Rotterdam. The experience in this casual-chic and lively place will be an immersive journey that starts on the ground floor, as soon as visitors step into the elevator and, like Pfaall, take the journey to the moon.

‘The experience in this casual-chic and vibrant place will be an immersive journey that starts on the ground floor...’

Once they arrive on the 57th floor, at a height of 185 meters, visitors discover an enchanting atmosphere in the form of a moonscape. One floor higher, at 190 meters where the restaurant area will be located, the play of light between the sun and the earth is woven into the design. The interior gradually changes from the cool northern lights to the warm glow of a setting sun. It is the world of the fictional Rotterdammer Hans Pfaall, but in a modern setting, designed by Doepel Strijkers Architects.
