A sustainable Christmas market will take place on the edge of Rotterdam Centre from 8 to 10 December. During the intimate Christmas market of Trompenburg Tuinen & Arboretum, sustainability and responsible shopping are central.
Trompenburg is located just outside the centre, so you don't want to miss this festive weekend! For three days, the evergreen botanical gardens of Trompenburg form the backdrop for an intimate Christmas market where we surprise young and old. Along the route that leads you through this historic country estate you will find more than 50 stalls with products with a link to greenery such as hellebores, heather, organic flower bulbs and freshly cut mistletoe. Also expect original (gift) items from local entrepreneurs. Think of handmade candles, chocolate, ceramics and woodturning.
The green oasis of Trompenburg is beautifully illuminated during the Christmas market and is completely dedicated to responsible (work) shopping. It will be a party for young and old. Children stay warm during one of the fun winter games they encounter along the way, such as ski running or catching Santa hats!
At the entrance there is a covered winter square, where fresh Christmas greenery is sold: from special types of holly, conifers and pines to firs from Trompenburg's own garden. The prunings immediately get a second life on the Christmas table of Rotterdam residents.
Participate in one of the fantastic workshops, such as the 'Make landscape perfume' workshop, where you make your own perfume based on a collection of scented plants from Trompenburg, or 'make a winter leaf', in which textile artist Mirjam Withaar takes you into the wet felting technique.
Would you rather take a beautiful walk? During the winter walks in Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum you will learn more about what grows and blooms in December. During the walk, an expert takes participants through the garden in the dark and you follow an illuminated route.
You can relax and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere on the terraces at the food trucks and Tea House 'De Uithoek'.
To stay in the mood, winter food & drinks are served: pea soup, chocolate milk and mulled wine are on the menu, among other things.
The sustainable Christmas market will take place from Friday 8 December from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 December from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The entrance fee is €11 p.p. With the Museumkaart, Rotterdampas, Jaarwandelkaart or Vriendenkaart, entrance is completely free.
