Willem de Feijter is an urban forester. He gives advice about trees and greenery in the city. Because of his work he has a unique view of Rotterdam Centre.
During my vlog series 'Through the eyes of...' I followed urban forester Willem for a day. I have certainly discovered a new, green side of Rotterdam Centre. For the video, he showed me various green places in the city, such as a large roof garden and special trees in the middle of the city.
Greenery in the city plays a crucial role in tackling climate problems and contributes to biodiversity. It is not only important for nature itself, but people become happier and healthier from more greenery as well.
"Without greenery in the city, the city is not liveable. We have only lived in cities for a few thousand years and before that we have always lived in nature," says city forester Willem.
Fortunately, green is a top priority in Rotterdam Centre and there are many initiatives for more nature in the city.
