Every year on May 4, we commemorate the victims who have died since the Second World War. An important moment, when we take two minutes of silence at eight o'clock.
Because commemoration is something we do together, Rotterdam organizes a programme every year in which wreaths are laid in various places in the city. There will also be a silent tour, which you are welcome to join.
Do you want to commemorate together with others? Then come to the silent procession in Rotterdam Centre. This starts in the Laurenskerk at 6.15 PM. Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb will speak a word of remembrance at 6.50 PM. After this, around 7.30, the silent procession starts towards Stadhuisplein.
During the walk you come across the Grotekerkplein, the Oppert, the Meent and the Coolsingel towards Stadhuisplein.
Arriving at Stadhuisplein around 7.50 PM, Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb will lay a wreath on behalf of the municipal council. At eight o'clock there will be a joint two-minute silence out of respect for the sacrifices made for our freedom. Afterwards, a wreath laying ceremony will take place and the walk along the monument will open.
