Another beautiful summer showcase is waiting for you! As we have seen before, the showcases on the Lijnbaan are regularly transformed into a mini museum. To maintain the summer vibes, one of the showcases is currently dedicated to the summer programming in the centre. Have you spotted it yet?
The European Para Championships is coming to Rotterdam from 8 to 20 August! This multi-sport event takes place every four years and is always hosted by a major European city. And the honour in 2023 is our beautiful Rotterdam.
Competitions will be organized for ten different para sports. This means no less than 1,500 Paralympic athletes come to the city from forty-five different European countries. They will compete to become European champions.
It is no surprise that the main hub of the championships is Rotterdam Ahoy. But in addition to the spacious halls that Ahoy offers, some matches will take place in the middle of the city. For example, the finals of the Para Archery are held at the Kop van Zuid and the best wheelchair tennis players compete for gold at the Schouwburgplein. In this way, everyone can be inspired by these top athletes.
Rotterdam Centre is the ideal place for anyone who likes diverse and delicious food in a vibrant environment. Here you will find countless restaurants with cuisines from all over the world.
With nice weather it is of course wonderful to sit in the sun. Fortunately, we have beautiful terraces in the centre. Think of the large terrace of Brasserie Jules, right in front of WTC Rotterdam, Raoul Lunchcafé, above the Koopgoot and right next to the Bijenkorf, and De Huismeester on the corner of the Meent and the Haagseveer. Enough to choose from!

You will find the Capri ice cream parlour on the Karel Doormanstraat. A icon in Rotterdam! Capri was opened in 1957 and for generations Rotterdammers and people from outside the city have been coming to this ice cream parlour for the best ice creams. The first owner of Capri was an Italian. The third generation is now at the helm, also with Italian blood. And let's be honest, who knows more about Italian ice cream than the Italians themselves?

With the arrival of the Hoek van Holland metro line, the coastline will come very close. Nowadays you can be on the beach in 37 minutes! To celebrate this, no less than eight cool sand sculptures will be placed in Rotterdam Centre.
From July 6, the artists will start working on the sand sculptures. From then on you can follow the route that starts at Central Plaza and ends at metro station Blaak, to see all the works of art. The sand sculptures will decorate the city centre until August 6.
Is your child a born artist? Or does it like sand and beach? Then come to the centre on Wednesday 12 July, Saturday 22 July, Wednesday 26 July or Saturday 5 August to help build the most beautiful works of art between 10.00 and 15.00!
With the summer in the city you would rather not sit inside. Of course you can relax on the beach with the new metro line, but you can also go to one of the great events in Rotterdam!
For example, it's almost time for Zomercarnaval (Summer Carnival)! Everyone is eager to join this summer party in a South American way. Since 1984, Rotterdam has been the proud home of Summer Carnival in the Netherlands. Also this year there will be a full carnival on July 28 and 29.
Discover the flavours of the South American cultures that Rotterdam harbours on the mercado, or watch the grand finale: the street parade. Thousands of dancers, musicians and floats move through the city where the party goes on until late into the night.
On Wednesday 21 June, the Lijnbaan turned into the place where the longest sun salutation took place! It was the official International Yoga Day - the perfect time to practice yoga together in the sun!
