Fancy a party? Then put Saturday, November 16 in your calendar. Then the food court and breeding ground of Station Bergweg becomes Station Bergfest for one day. That day is all about tasting, discovery, entertainment and celebration.
Or as the organization itself says: “We celebrate the love for the profession with the best Rotterdam catering industry under one roof.” Expect a day full of culinary treats, tastings, live music, art, workshops, a mini market and games.
Initiator Linda Dammers explains: “Bergweg Station represents the best of Rotterdam's catering industry. With this event we want to put the basis of that concept back in the spotlight. With eleven young, creative entrepreneurs who operate at a particularly high level, something so beautiful has been created in a short time. That is why we are now happy to organize a food festival that radiates our love for the profession. And, where you also find entertainment in a casual, typically Rotterdam atmosphere.”
During Station Bergfest you will become acquainted with the story and working methods of the entrepreneurs. On this day they offer exclusive "specials of the day", which you can taste with a special card: the Proeverij Passie (Tasting Pass). There are also various workshops and other activities that you can book on site for free. For example, at Bar Pekel you can learn how to shuck oysters, and at arC drinks you can immerse yourself in a masterclass and tasting of Bobby's gin.
On this day, Eurobrouwers is launching a wild beer tap on a wooden barrel and a new wild beer in collaboration with the Nevel brewery. They are the first brewery in the Netherlands to serve a Cantillon from the rotating draft. "This means that we will become a unique sour beer location with our own sour, a game beer and a classic gueuze or lambic from Cantillon. We notice that there is a lot of demand for game beer and sour beer, and Bergweg is particularly suitable as a food hall because the exciting food pairings we can make," says Kris de Leeuw of Eurobrouwers.
Would you like to stock up on culinary gifts for the holidays? Then be sure to visit the mini market at Bergfest Station. Well-known names such as Puike Wijnen (available at Kobar), as well as local favourite The Spice Girl, who makes delicious chili oil found on Stooges' burgers, are present.
Furthermore, the retro arcade games are expanded with new games for young and old. Freek Trimbach Animations is designing a unique Station Bergfest game especially for this day! You can also participate in the Rotterdam thumb wrestling championship at taco stand Guerrillah and pizza throwing at Pizza Palace.
Finally, the De Lepelaer collective is present to transform your favourite spoon into a beautiful ring, and Stay Classy Tattoo offers a special Station Bergfest tattoo flash sale.
